As two former middle school collaborators, we are dedicated to the idea that all students can not only learn to be strong readers, writers, and critical thinkers across the disciplines, but should enjoy reading, writing, and thinking as well!

CKS4t9GUYAEwSuZLauren Francese has taught social studies at both the middle and high school levels and is currently the 6-12 Social Studies Department Chair for the Westport Public Schools in Westport, CT.

Rebecca Marsick has taught grades 2-12, including middle school language arts and high school English. She is currently the Secondary Literacy Coach for the Westport Public Schools.

Together, we co-authored the professional text Stretching Beyond the Textbook:Reading and Succeeding with Complex Texts in the Content AreasIn addition, we have presented at numerous conferences including the International Literacy Association, the National Council for Social Studies, Connecticut Reading Association, and New England League of Middle Schools. Topics have included: inquiry, curiosity and questioning, differentiation, and the implementation of book clubs in the content areas.

This site was born out of our love for working with other educators and our hope is that it becomes a place of collaboration for all educators who are excited about sharing best practices for student engagement with and instruction on literacy.
